When Will You Arrive at the Mountaintop?
Polish-American artist Piotr Uklański takes well-known, overused, sometimes sentimental subjects and tropes and both embraces and subverts them. His 2017 exhibition at New York's Nahmad Contemporary featured enormous and imposing works (nuclear explosions, violent storms, radiant vistas) all in a humble cut paper. We wanted the publication to carry this emphasis in toothsome, colorful abstraction. Hand-colored paper was scored, impressed, damaged to form the outer dust jacket and case cover. The plates themselves printed on uncoated stock, lending a connection to the piece for its reader.
