The Backwoodsman is an independently-run, self-published magazine with over 30 years of history. Backed by a strong DIY ethos (its writers, for instance, are paid in barter) from cover to cover. Advertising is reserved for independent makers, politics are left wisely out of its reporting, and the collective wisdom represented in its articles is simply incredible. I was thrilled to work on their Summer 2024 edition—aiming to reflect its scrappy heritage in the pages, while setting typographic bumpers and boundaries evocative of American tradition and practicality.
